Pirbright death: Female army recruit Megan Park dies during training …

A female army recruit has died during a training exercise at a barracks in Surrey, the army has confirmed. The victim, who was named tonight as Megan Park, was pronounced dead at the Pirbright Army Training Regiment today. The cause of her death is under investigation but early reports suggested she had collapsed during training.

Her family said she had always wanted to be in the armed forces and had started her dream job. In a statement, they said: “It is with deepest regret that Megan’s family must announce that she has sadly passed on, doing the thing she loved.

“She was so excited about going. It was the start of her dream job. Megan is going to be missed by so many people, friends and colleagues.

“Although she will be deeply missed her presence will always be alive. Megan will always go on in people’s memories for her lively sense of humour and her fun sarcasm and quirky personality.

“The family are very grateful for all the good wishes and thoughts and just ask that people respect our privacy at this time.”

Young army recruits are sent for training at Pirbright shortly after they are selected for the army. A spokesman for the British Army said the woman’s family had been informed of her death. He said: We can confirm that a recruit has died while undergoing initial training at the Army Training Centre (ATC) Pirbright.

The incident is being investigated and it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.
