Sister set for charity race in memory of parachute death victim …

A DEDICATED sister is running a charity race in memory of her brother who died last year. Louisa Cherifi is racing in the Bridgwater[1] 10k on September 4 as a tribute to sibling, Ali Woodford, who died during an Army parachute training expedition in Germany on September 29 2015. Lou, from North Petherton[2], along with her friends Nikki Lang ad Dan Wilkes, are raising money for Combat Stress, Ali’s chosen charity.

Ali, 26, also from North Petherton, collided with another soldier in the air mid jump, causing his second parachute to fail to open. Lou said: “I am running the Bridgwater 10K for charity on September 4 in memory of my brother, Ali.

“It starts and ends at Morganians Rugby Club and I am running in aid of Combat Stress, which was Ali’s chosen charity.

“So far we’ve raised more than 400 and I would love it if people could support us.

“There’s three of us racing- my friend Nikki Lang and Ali’s best mate, Dan Wilkes.

“My nephew, Ali’s son, will be coming to meet me and is crossing the finishing line with me, which will be amazing.”

Lou decided to take on the challenge before she goes off to travel the world.

“My son told me about the run about two months ago,” she said.

“People know I like running and I’m going travelling in October so it’s a nice thing to do before I go.

“Nikki has already done one !0K before so will be great to have the support.”

Ali, who attended North Petherton Primary School followed by Robert Blake Science College[3], joined the army for his basic training in 2011, and went on to become a Lance Corporal. He tragically collided with another soldier in the air mid jump, causing his second parachute to fail to open.

The trio are donating funds to Combat Stress, the charity who treat Veterans suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety.
